Native Orchids
Recording and mapping of various species, 2025
Observations
In the early spring of 2025, a field survey was conducted to record the various orchid species at the NTUA campus. More than ten species have been mapped. These are dispersed in more than forty locations throughout the park.
The identification of the orchids was aided by the app iNaturalist. Available from https://www.inaturalist.org.
Feedback received from iNaturalist community members helped identify and avoid potential mistakes.
However, the identification process is ongoing, as there are hybridization and classification issues. Other resources such as books and websites were also consulted. They are cited in the "Resources" section .
A map was created online with the aid of the "Google My Maps" tool. It will be regularly updated during the blooming season of each species allowing for more thickets to be observed.
Note: The map could be provided to NTUA community members after communication. The contact details are in the "About" section.
